Adventures with Brushos.....

Hello,

This is the card I made for my better half for his birthday last month, using Brusho Crystal Colours for the background, the Branches are from Clarity Stamps and the Bicycle from Inkylicious.

I saw a card made by the very talented Lynne K over at Creative Lynks Blogspot that had used Brusho Colour Crystals to make the background. I was intrigued as had never come across this medium before and liked the effect so had a look on utube where only a couple of videos showed this new medium...I found a set of 24 pots of Brushos on ebay and bought them ...they're amazing to work with...but a bit of a challenge...

Here's a short video about them...

My first attempts at using them were a bit heavy handed to say the least as the crystals are strongly pigmented...but it was a nice day so took my sketch book outside and got stuck in...

At the moment I am really enjoying the art of Geninne so have been inspired by her in these drawings....

So I sprinkled my colours then spritzed with water....you can see how little I'd sprinkled from the pots...

...and even though I thought that I had used only a little amount, once spritzed it was obvious I had used far too much.  The dark colours need only a grain or two of the crystals instead of the amount I'd used...

Once spritzed I moved the paint around a bit but had used way too much....these are the 24 colours I have in my set of Brusho pots....the colours are fabulous!

I drew another picture.....

...this time mixing the crystals with water to use as watercolours....but once again I was too heavy handed with the dark colours.

I haven't used Brushos on proper watercolour paper yet so will report back once I have.  I think I am going to enjoy using the crystals once I get the hang of it. Practice practice practice......

I was pleased with the background to the card I'd made for Ed though....
less is more when it comes to Brushos.....
Give it a go!!

Anniversary Card for Ed...

Hello,

Yesterday was our 19th wedding anniversary and Ed likes my arty type cards so I created this one for him.

The background of the central picture was done with Kaisercraft acrylic paints on the 6" x 6" gelli plate using the Clarity Stamps wall stencil. Great technique and Barbara Grey has a fab tutorial of 'how to' create the wall with the aperture here...

Summer Storm Journal Page....

Hello,

Having not been very creative for the past few months I thought the best way to get back into it would be to just jump straight into my art journal.  This one is an A4 mole skin and I really like working on this size of paper.

Here's how I got there.......

I'd been rolling left over ink from my brayer onto these pages but didn't want the paper to be porous so covered the surface with a thin layer of gesso after putting masking tape down the centre of the page to stop tearing...

I recently bought some Prima Color Bloom Sprays and wanted to try them out...I found that on the gesso'd surface the sprays tended to sit on the top rather than sinking into the paper so I spread them with a brush, careful not to get the colours too muddy then dried them with a heat gun...

I just love the shimmer and sparkle of these sprays.  The spray is fine and can easily be directed with the special nozzle. Easy to use...

I really didn't know where I was going with this page but added another layer using Clarity Stamps stencils  and acrylic paint...

...then texture using another Clarity stancil and modelling paste....

At this point I was thinking the sky looked kind of stormy so now knew which direction I was going in...Stamping a Suzi Blu girl and some Clear Stamps flowers onto card then colouring in and cutting out ready to adhere to the page with Mod Podge...

...then I got carried away and forgot to take any more photos until I had finished but added these.....
Gelatos
Adirondack Inks applied with cut and dry
Distress markers
More acrylic paint
Stamps by Inkylicious and Lavinia Stamps stamped in Versafine Black Onyx and Scarlet
Black Pilot permaball pen for doodling and writing....

Even my handwriting is a bit haphazard!!

I still don't seem to have fired up my creativity...I found this page quite difficult to do.  Things just aren't flowing. I guess perseverance is the key! Maybe I should just get out my sketchbook and a pen and try to draw something every day....

Any ideas?

A Fairy Gift ...

Hello,

I forgot to blog this....

Back in March it was my Dad's 80th Birthday.  When my dear Mum was alive she loved all things 'fairy' and Dad had seen some of my Lavinia Stamps cards using the fairy stamps and asked me to make a fairy picture for him to remind him of my Mum.

Here it is...

Background created on the 10 x 8 gelli plate using adirondack inks then lots of Lavinia Stamps images and a few Inkylicious ones too.

I am so pleased he loved it.

Thank you so much for visiting.

Sunday Walk At Knightshayes...

Hello,

Yesterday was a beautiful summers day so we went with J and the children to Knightshayes, a gorgeous National Trust house just outside Tiverton, here in Devon .

Katrina was left at home sleeping off her night shift. Soon she'll be able to join us when we go out at weekends, once her maternity leave starts.

The gardens were stunning, the views across the hills and across to Tiverton as clear as a bell.

Of course I took photos....

Ed, with Jack and Ellie walking across the parkland with Tiverton Mill and town in the distance surrounded by the Devon hills...

Knightshayes is a huge gothic house decorated inside by William Burgess... The fountain was unfortunately off for maintenance...

The Lily pond was so lovely with great green and blue dragonflies darting across the water and lots of black and gold fish coming up to nibble fingers...

J taking pics too ...

Gorgeous Boy...

Ellie's freckles ...

Cuddles for Grandma Lulu ...

Just love family time....

Monday, 30 June 2014

Hello,

This week I made 3 quick and easy cards using a simple technique. An area on each card was masked off with sticky notes then brayered with adirondack inks. Simple overstamping completed the cards. I used a black micron pen to edge the ink areas.

Stamps Used:
The Tree and Grasses from Inkylicious
The birds from Crafty Iindividuals
The flower Lavinia Stamps

Dancing in the Rain ...

Hello,

It's raining!! After 3 weeks of temperatures up in the 20s with lots of lovely sunshine it's a bit of a shock. The temperature has dropped considerably so that I've had to reach for my socks and jumper lol...

Today I am sharing a card which uses a lovely image from the Inkylicious set called 'Dancing in the Rain'.

There are some Lavinia stamps there too and a couple from Stampin up.  The hills and mountains were created by sponging ink over a torn paper mask. Love this technique!!

Thank you for visiting.
Hope it doesn't rain too much.....
